Default Turn off Auto Update Style in W2003

How can I turn off Auto Update Style in Word 2003? It's
driving me nuts!

Question #2: I have created a letterhead template that I
want to use most of the time for my docs. Is there a way
to have it be the default template, rather than
Normal.dot, or be listed with Blank Document as an option?

Thank you twice.

I'm not sure which of several possible nut-driving features you are having
trouble with. Try these:

Tools Templates and Add-ins to turn off updating styles from template
Tools Options Edit to control 'prompt tp update style' and 'keep track
of formatting' (this isn't a style change, but many people think that's what
they are seeing).
Tools Options AutoFormat As You Type to turn off 'Define styles based on
formatting' (and a lot of other annoyances).
Modify the styles themselves to get rid of 'Automatically update'.

Save the template in your user templates folder (this will be the default
location when you save in .dot format, or you can find the location from
Tools Options File locations).

The template will then appear in the dialog you get from General Templates
on the task pane. Once you've used it once or twice, it will appear in the
task pane itself.

Another option is to place a shortcut to the template on your desktop.
Double-clicking will then start Word with a blank document based on your
letterhead.
