Default Outlook Express folders do not match .dbx files in Store folder

Certainly does (reduce the size of the inbox dbx file, after compaction --
which is what I mentioned -- when nearly empty).

Same thing seen with other dbx files.

E.g. my outbox may reach 10 MB if I don't compact, even when empty. On
compaction when empty it becomes about 60 kB.

And yes, I know one shouldn't archive messages in folders in constant use.
'Technically' the messages are awaiting filing elsewhere (as txt files) or
are just reminders of action.

I safeguard myself against loss by frequent back-ups.

Doing a compaction will change the dbx file date to the compaction date.
If a compaction is performed and the date is not changed suggests that
the correct store folder is not being viewed.

- Do NOT use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages! Move the
message to

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not
attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic

Default Outlook Express folders do not match .dbx files in Store folde

There is only one Store folder and compaction has been carried out any time
Outlook asks plus manually as well. File View options have been changed to
view hidden files. All of this information wass furnished previously.

Please read my problem description completely and carefully. Obviously
something is happening (or not happening as the case may be) thaat is not
correct. I just don't know what it is or what to do about it.

Only one user account/Identity. Show hidden files and folders is enabled. If
the identity is corrupted, how would I know? What would I do about it? I have
had no problems until I attempted a recent backup of my email.

Your current Identity is very badly damaged, primarily due to your lousy

File | Identities | Add new identity

NB: Do NOT name the new identity 'Main Identity' or include the work

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import messages from the old identity's store into the new one, and then (3)
delete the old identity (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

I did read your problem description completely. You may be able to retrieve
messages with this tool.

DBXpress:
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

You may need to run it in the Extract From Disk Mode if its normal recovery
mode fails to find the lost messages.

As others have said, poor housekeeping of a not so reliable e-mail client is
the cause. Among the things others have suggested, make sure you backup OE
daily if you value its contents.

This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is
written in red. That is referring to a different program.

You need to create a new Identity.
Import your messages into the new Identity.
