It is always best to create the workbook in the earliest version in
which it will be used. Although the 2002 file format is intended to be compatible with versions back to 97, there are new features in 2002 and not all can be accommodated in the earlier versions. Crashing is unusual, though - more usually there is just reduced functionality or an error message. What are the symptoms of the crash? What does the workbook include: - VBA code? - pivot tables? - charts? - external data queries? Does holding the shift key down while opening it in the earlier versions make any difference? Bill hi,
Thanks for your reply I have discovered that it is the macro's that is causing the crash. On ealier versions of the file it opens fine in 97,2000 and 2002. So I opened a blank 97 workbook and the file in 2002 on my desktop I dragged over the VB button that gets data from other workbooks and on the blank 97 workbook it crashed as soon as I dropped it in. I have rolled out XP PC's here so the guys working on this file would have created the file in 2002 but its effecting the users that are on the older versions. I think re-creating the workbook in the older version is the best solution. Thanks again Andy -----Original Message----- It is always best to create the workbook in the earliest version in which it will be used.
