Default Read-Only Documents

How can I keep Word from randomly changing the file I am working on to
Read-Only? This may occur, without warning, at any time while I am working
on a file. This may be during an auto-save, or when I manually save the
file, or when I attempt to close the file.

I am having the same problem, using Office 2003 SBE on Windows XP Pro.
