unable to close outlook

I have upgraded from outlook 2000 to 2003. We are using exchange server 2000 for mail. The program works fine, retrieves mail, etc.. the problem occurs with closing outlook. It leaves the screen and my desktop appears, however, outlook continues to run in the background and I am unable to bring it back to the desktop. The only way to shut it down or bring it back is by using the office tool------ application recovery----

How do I solve this issue?

I have also just upgraded to Outlook 2003 and also can't get Outlook to close correctly. When I close Outlook the icon it put in the system tray is still there but right or left clicking it doesn't do anything. I've found that if I don't close it and just let the shutdown deal with it that it closes correctly and will reopen when I reboot my laptop. Please help, our IT people say this can't be happening.

I too have that problem. I use task manager to close
outlook.exe. If I don't do that, then I can't re-open
outlook. Need help.

We have the same problem here. Call Microsoft and open a case with them.
They will take your credit card info and get you the patch to fix the
problem. You shouldn't be charged for the case because it is a known issue.
