Default Lower and uppercase for cross-references

Hi,

I have some cross-references for the tables in my text
that are numbered in roman numbers and I would the first
letter of the cross-reference to be in lower case but
that the number (I, II, III, IV...) When I edit the field
the choices that I have only permits me to have all in
uppercase or lowercas. Is it possible to do what I'm
trying to do? If yes can you let me know how. Thanks for
your comments and help.

I'm not certain I'm clear on what you want. Could you show
us an example? And are you familiar with working directly
with Word's field codes? (You use the phrase "edit the
field", but I'm not sure you mean you're actually going into
the REF field...)

Hi,

Thanks for replying. When I use some cross-references for
my tables in the text they appear as:

....as seen in Table IV...

I know that if I right-click on the cross-reference and
then choose the "Edit field..." I can change the format
of my cross reference to be in lowercase or
uppercase..now what I would like to have is something
like this:

....as seen in table IV...

What I trying to do is to have the word "table" in
lowercase and the roman numbers (I, II, III, IV...) in
uppercase using the cross-references. Thanks for your
help.

Eric,

Hi Eric,

OK, I understand what you want. You can do it, but not the
"easy way". Technically "Table IV" is a proper name, so one
would expect it to appear in the text the same way as the
label (with Table instead of table). There's no way to get
Word to make this change for you automatically.

What you can do is to select just the table number (it's an
SEQ field) and assign a bookmark to it (tableIV for
example). And then manually type "table", and finally,
insert a cross-reference to the bookmark displaying "IV").

When I use some cross-references for
my tables in the text they appear as:

....as seen in Table IV...

I know that if I right-click on the cross-reference and
then choose the "Edit field..." I can change the format
of my cross reference to be in lowercase or

....as seen in table IV...

What I trying to do is to have the word "table" in
lowercase and the roman numbers (I, II, III, IV...) in
uppercase using the cross-references.
