Preview pane by default in Outlook XP
I noticed in some of Microsoft's documentation that they acknowledge the preview pane as a potential vector for virus protection. I always turn preview pane off, but I'm irritated that for EVERY SINGLE NEW FOLDER I create, I have to manually turn PP off. The rhetorical question is, of course, why is preview pane the default if it is an acknowledged security risk. The practical question is, is there a way to change this so it is not the default setting?

If you start Outlook with the /nopreview switch, the preview pane won't be
availbale. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "Barb" wrote in message ... Preview pane by default in Outlook XP
This will work for any shortcut I create, but what about the desktop icon that Outlook creates on install? You can't add the /nopreview switch to this and the warning that comes up suggests that the icon should not be removed. As long is this is the case, I have no way to ensure that users are using a shortcut with the /nopreview switch.
What exactly is the special functionality of the desktop Outlook icon, and what are the consequences of deleting it? |

There are no consequences. Feel free to remove it or, perhaps better yet,
replace it with a shortcut. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "Barb" wrote in message ... You'll see the special functionality when you right click it and choose
Properties. You can savely remove it by editing a registry key; http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/r...utlookicon.htm Just curious; Why do you want to disable the preview pane? -- Roady [MVP] www.howto-outlook.com Tips of the month: -Creating Signatures -Create an Office XP CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 3 ----- "Barb" wrote in message ...
