Default Changing default number format in worksheets

I work with Excel several hours every day. The default
number formatting ("General") is not one that I EVER use.
But I can't see a way to change the default number
formatting. So I spend a lot of time just reformatting
numbers in my spreadsheets. Does anyone know of a way to
set the default number format to the one you most commonly
use?
