Default Inserted bitmap picture prints with a gray background

I've been having a problem with black & white bitmap images printing
with a light gray background, although the background of the image is
white. This occurs in other office apps too, and with various images,
and to various printers. I've updated windows, and all software and
printer drivers, however, I'm still having problems. What could it be?

Thanks,

Kevin

If this is happening in all Office products then it has to be something wrong with
the images. Are they .tif's? Have you tried the transparency tool on the picture
toolbar? Open one of the troublesome images in an editing program and save in a
different format, .png would be my choice.

But these are different images from different sources, also saved in
different formats and printed to different printers. I'm sure others
have encountered this problem. Can they let me know? Would it help if I
send you some files I have trouble with? There is technically nothing
wrong with the files. I open them up in Photoshop, save as bitmap. But
some images I never even touch and are given to me as is. One solution
I've noticed that fixes the problem is to select black & white instead
of automatic under the picture properties window, but it seems like I
should not have to do this.

You might want to check to see if you have the latest driver for your printer(s).
If you search the newsgroups you'll find your issue is pretty unique.
If you want, send me a couple of your troublesome images and I will print them here.

Meanwhile, look at the printer preferences in the control panel. Open the printer
folder, right click your printer, properties. See if you have automatic selected
here, there are times these settings will override the application setup.
Send the images to:
