Default Keeping settings when saving

I have been trying to save a document as formatted. Each time I save, I lose
the header and the margins return to the default Word settings. I have
created a template with the header and my desired margins, but it still
returns to the default, even when I click the default key in the page setup
screen. I did not have this problem with my old version of Word (97). This
started after I installed Office 2003.
