How do I restore the original margin settings?
This post was very helpful, as I have always been looking for the factory set
margins in Word and can not find them anywhere. Why are they not found in Word help? "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: For U.S. Letter, 1.25" left and right, 1" top and bottom, 0.5" header and footer; for A4, I believe the equivalent in cm. One way to get back to the default margins temporarily, just so you can see what they are, is to start Word with the /a switch or (in recent versions) pressing Ctrl while loading. This loads Word in Safe Mode, with the default Normal.dot. If you have made no other modifications you want to save, you can rename Normal.dot, and Word will generate a fresh factory-default copy; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...ocNotBlank.htm -- Suzanne S. How do I restore the original margin settings?
Note that the default margins in Word 2007 are 1" all the way around (but
still 0.5" for header and footer). -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "jimbo802" wrote in message ... How do I restore the original margin settings?
Thanks...I am still working in Word 2003.
I think my settings got all "wonky" when I hit the default button on the margins tab. I assumed that would return the factory default setting to my document or my default settings. I did not realize it would change my default settings to the current set up. It's good that folks like you are available to help us get out of sticky problems that can easily happen in applications. How do I restore the original margin settings?
This is a common misconception, though if you read the message box that
comes up when you click Default... ("Do you want to change the default settings for page setup?") you might get a clue, though even that wording is a little ambiguous. OTOH, it does NOT say, "Do you want to return to the original Word default settings for page setup?" or anything like that. -- Suzanne S.
