Default Office 2007 Home and Student Installation

I currently have Office 2003 with all the bells. The only thing I use
frequently is Excel, Word and PowerPoint. I purchased 2007 H&S so that I
could get those applications upgraded. Do I leave the old apps on my pc and
install the new software or do I uninstall just those apps and install the
new ones then? I would really like to make it as clean as possible but don't
mind leaving the old on my pc if that is best. I want to be able to view old
documents also. Thank you.

JoAnn, thank you for your quick reply. Let me make sure I understand one
thing. If I uninstall 2003 Word, etc., will I still be able to open my old
documents with the 2007 Word, etc.? I imagine it is backward compatible but
I just want to make sure before I do it. Thank you again!

Yes but 2007 defaults to a new format (docx) that 2003 cannot read with out
an addin. You can set the default to be doc if you wish.

The first link below is a set of converters for 2003 to allow it to read the
new format, the second link will enable 2007 to save files as pdf files if
you so require.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007

Yes
Theres no need to uninstall Office 2003, unless you want to. 2007 will
update the 2003 components included in 2007 and leave those that are not eg
Outlook 2003

It doesn't have to default to .docx. You can change the default to .doc if
you prefer.
