is there any way to set a header/footer format for all word and excel docs?

For Excel, you'll need to ask in an Excel NG. For Word, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...alTemplate.htm, but
note the caveat about adding a header/footer to Normal.dot. Much better to
create a specific document template with the desired header/footer and use
that for your documents; see
