I've had my Yogourmet for about 6 months now and I don't know what I'd do without it (being on the SCD diet and all). I think it was about 60 bucks when I got it, which isn't bad at all considering it can make 1/2 gallon at a time.It is made of PP or PE and so is very easy to clean.++Comes with the digital thermometer & clip's right onto heating pot. +/-(easy to read & use, but I dislike needing batteries for anything- so I have a little mechanical thermometer as well).Batch jar lid seals super tight which makes for longer storage; I've kept a batch in the fridge for over a month no problem.++Silent operation obviously since it's just a heater(unless you accidently seal the batch jar while incubating and it BLOWS off later).++Uses only 10watts of power at 80mA so energy use is minimal (a bonus in this era of exponentially increasing energy costs).++Little red indicator light gives me a quick indicator that it is still on.++Fits nicely pretty much anywhere on the countertop.++I just with they had a model that had a timer in it that would automatically turn it off after a desired time, but then again, my yogurt is cooked 24hr+ anyhow, so the longer the better I guess after that. Better yet then would be a simple timer in the body that automatically tracks how long you have been incubating.Definitely order the 2nd batch jar; that way you can start making another batch just before your previous batch/jar runs out.(I always leave the batch in the same jar to keep from contaminating it and possibly decreasing it's storage life).I give 4 stars because to me a 5 star yogurt maker does the boiling, cooling, adding starter, mixing, and incubating, all by itself automatically. Can't find one, so I'm building one myself...
Have used it twice since I bought it and it is wonderful. I bought it specifically to make the yogurt for the SCDiet and it makes preparation really easy.
The low rating is entirely due to the epic failure that is the digital thermometer provided. I have not been able to use this product successfully, although the incubator itself is well constructed and seems to work. The problem is the digital thermometer. It arrived turned "on" and dead. I replaced the battery; still dead. Digital thermometers are silly for this application. A good mechanical or spirit thermometer would never have suffered this problem. One caveat: the product's claimed 4-hour incubation time presumes a room temperature of 70 to 78 Fahrenheit, according to the user manual. That kind of room temperature happens about 2 days a year here in San Francisco. I would expect 8 to 12 hours to be a more reasonable claim for reasonable room temperatures.I'll be replacing the thermometer entirely with a sensible one.
It makes great yogurt just as it is suppose to, if I leave a batch in for longer than 6 hours I leave the lid so that it isn't on tight to let some heat out, this prevents the over heating that you see in other reviews. I love being able to make an store on large container rather than messing around with little ones. I have the little jars and when I want to take some to work I just spoon it out into the jar. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a large quantity yogurt maker.
I purchased one of these yogourmet yogurt makers about 4 months ago and having been making yogurt weekly ever since! It's extremely easy to use, simple to clean, does what it says it will. It's the largest capacity yogurt maker I found, making 2 liters while the others only made 1. This is a huge difference for me, as me and my dad eat just about 2 liters per week, so this is perfect. I've made some 'greek' style yogurt with the filter bag, which is pretty delicious with a couple spoons of honey. Now all I need is a Yogourmet extra batch jar!
A foolproof way to make perfect yogurt every time. Will make up to 2 quarts of homemade yogurt in only 4.5 hours! Also it is the only yogurt maker that will make our exclusive Yogourmet CBA yogurt that contains L. Casei which can boost your immune system, and B. Bifidus which can help promote regularity. It can also be used to make fresh cheese, sour cream and buttermilk. Largest capacity yogurt maker available and the only one that uses a "water bath" system to create an even heating wall around the inner container to maintain the precise temperature necessary to allow the yogurt cultures to incubate fully and evenly. The result is a rich, creamy, healthy yogurt every time. Includes a detailed instruction booklet, thermometer and cheese strainer.
The Yogourmet Electric Yogurt Maker makes it easy for you to quit spending extra money on store-bought yogurts, yogurt cheeses, and cultured milks. Best of all, it helps you enjoy the rich, creamy texture and great taste associated with natural yogurt, along with a wide variety of health benefits. And you get the satisfaction of knowing exactly where your food is coming from. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } img.withlink {border:1px black solid;} A unique water-bath system provides consistent, ideal temperatures for yogurt making. You simply need to select milk, cultures, and flavorings to get started. Versatile and Easy to Make Whether you enjoy yogurt with granola in the morning, as a substitute for sour cream on your baked potatoes, as a snack on the go, or as an ingredient in baked goods, you understand the rich appeal of this versatile food. The Yogourmet Electric Yogurt Maker is designed to help you craft specialty yogurts using your choice of milk--for half the cost of store-bought yogurts. This electric yogurt maker uses a unique water-bath system to maintain an ideal temperature for preparing yogurt that is healthy, safe, and the perfect texture. Featuring a precision thermometer marked with both and Fahrenheit and Celsius readings and a detailed set of instructions, this yogurt maker takes the guess work out of deciding when to add your yogurt starter to your preheated milk. It's fast, too--two quarts of yogurt take just four and a half hours to make. You can choose to make one or two liters of yogurt at a time, and the inner container's special seal-tight lid will let you store your yogurt in the refrigerator for more than three weeks. When it's time to make a new batch, this container is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning, and it is made of food-grade plastic that is PVC and BPA free. Additional inner containers can be purchased separately, making it easy to keep different types of yogurt on hand or start a new batch before the last one is gone. These reusable containers contribute to a green lifestyle by eliminating the disposable containers you would collect using store-bought yogurt. Calcium-Rich, All-Natural, and Good for Digestion Using your favorite fruits, jams, or flavorings, and your own milk, whether it's local organic milk or soy milk, ensures that your homemade yogurt is free of artificial colors and the strange tastes left behind by preservatives. This system can also be used to make soft yogurt cheeses, special cultured milks, and macrobiotic yogurts with casei bifidus acidophilus. Having a great selection of homemade yogurts on hand is ideal for anyone keeping close track of what they eat, especially those on the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet." Plus yogurt is an easy-to-eat source of calcium and essential B vitamins. The fermentation process involved in making yogurt means that it contains lower levels of lactose compared with other dairy products, so even those who are sensitive to lactose can typically enjoy it. For cheese making, this kit includes a specially designed cotton bag with an easy-to-fill opening and a cord, which makes it simple to close the bag and hang it. The Yogourmet Electric Yogurt Maker is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box Outer container with lid, inner container with lid, thermometer, cotton bag, and 12-page instruction manual.
