Outlook Express 6

Hi There,

I think my question probably has a very simple answer but not being
brilliant on computers I'm frustrated by not knowing what it is!

I've had problems with OE freezing and not responding when I first open it
up. I had to open and close several times before it would operate okay.

I checked what the problem might be and was told to update Microsoft Windows
which I did this morning. It then closed down and started up again. When it
did so my Outlook Express icon was on my desktop but when I clicked on it, it
disappeared, although it did still open it up.

I've looked on my list in Startup where regularly used icons are since I had
Outlook Express there too - but that's also gone.

I've checked under 'All Programmes 'but cannot find Outlook Express there.

I need to locate it then create a desktop icon.

Can someone help please?

Have you installed Windows Live Mail?

It sounds like you need to create a new Identity in OE.

To create a new shortcut, point to "C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express\msimn.exe" .

I don't think I installed anything additional (Windows Live Mail) but then,
as I said, I'm not that computer literate! How would I know?

I have, however, managed to create the shortcut so thank you for that.

I am using Windows XP Home.

The first thing I would do is check Control Panel Add and Remove Programs,
choose Add\Remove Windows Components, confirm Outlook Express has a check
mark.

Next I would look in Taskbar and Start menu properties.

Right click Start, choose Properties, select Start Menu tab, click Customize
for Start menu, assure Outlook Express is displayed for Email.

If that doesn't get what you want then I would create a shortcut to Outlook
Express for your desktop.

Go to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express....

Look for, msimn.exe, right click, select Send To, on it's expanding menu
choose Desktop (create shortcut).

Thank you Ken,

That has resolved the remaining part of my problem. It didn't have a check
mark and I've been able to add it to the Toolbar and deleted the other one
i'd created (which I assume wouldn't have lead to anything!)

I'm now a very happy bunny!

Good to hear it's sorted out.

I have my Outlook Express in the Quick Launch bar.

If you need info about Quick Launch, choose Start, on it's menu choose Help.

Search for Quick Launch.

Full Windows version, please (e.g., WinXP SP3)? What updates did you
install?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
