I speak English (UK!!!!!!!!!!)
Why does everything in Office (particularly Outlook) have to keep defaulting
to 'US' English. I am from the UK, where we spell words properly. No matter how hard you try to change the defaults, not longer after, the automatic spell checker kicks in and everything ends in 'ize' instead of 'ise'. There are people how use your products who are not from America. Either learn to spell or make it easier for us not to have our work constantly updated into 'US' English ... ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. I too use UK English but am a little more polite that you! Many US spellings
reflect older UK usage. This Google search will give you lots of info http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&sa...Se arch&meta= By the way, many UK publishing house now use -ize ! My gripe with MS is that the Canadian English setting lets you use 'colour' and 'color' in the same document! -- Bernard V Liengme www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme remove caps from email "Jim" wrote in message om... English is a living language and its usuage is changing all the time. There is no 'proper' spelling only alternatives. Secondly when you run the spell checker can't you distinguish between the US and UK spelling of a particular word? If you can't why do you have a problem?. |

[Snip] There are people how use your products who are not from America.
I see the problem, in Ameica, we spell 'who', 'who' not 'how'. So it would look like this... There are people who use your products who are not from America. :-) "Edward W. Have you set your language and timezone correctly? The OS language setting and Office language settings should be identical to avoid any problems. I too am from the UK but I don't have the problem you describe nor can I replicate it on my system! hth rauk72 wrote: Why does everything in Office (particularly Outlook) have to keep defaulting to 'US' English. I’ve had a similar problem which I first noticed in Outlook and was also the
same in Word. No matter what the spell checker is set to when you exit then restart the application its back on US English again. I ensured that all regional setting instances were set to UK, however still US. Then I stumbled upon C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office\Microsoft Office Tools\Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings. The setting ‘Choose the language that defines default behaviour in Microsoft Office applications’ needs to be set to English (UK). It sorted my issue! PS behaviour is spelt with a U "ANONYMOUS" wrote: Have you set your language and timezone correctly? The OS language setting and Office language settings should be identical to avoid any problems.
