Office 2007 - borders toolbar

Vista - Office Word 2007
With ribbons replacing toolbars, how do I get the borders 'toolbar' to stay
open on top of the document while I add borders in a table. In the previous
versions I could just drag it on to the page.

Hi Doris,

Without using a 3rd party add-in floating toolbars aren't easy to come by in Word 2007. If you have the cursor in the table,
selecting the cell(s) you want to apply borders on then you should see a 'Table Tools' Design tab above the ribbon that has a
'Borders' dropdown to apply the selected border.

Thanks for your advice, but the problem is that the list closes after each
entry, making the operation take twice a long as it used to. This can be
significant, and very annoying!, when working with e.g. various columns of
figures with totals and subtotals.

Please can you tell me more about the third party add-in you referrred to.

Hi Doris,

While the pulldown may close, the last used border specification is now what you get if you click on the 'Borders' button in the
ribbon. You can also use F4 to repeat apply a border to different cells or rows as well as the Format Painter on the Home Tab.

As to the add-in, there are a growing number g and I haven't been keeping up with the varying versions, but one that is reported
to allow floating toolbars in Word 2007 is http://toolbartoggle.com

FWIW, that has always been the behavior of the Borders button (to apply the
most-recently-used border).
