Default Autotext entries

Is there a way to limit available autotext to one template, in this case my
custom template. I know I can go to the autocorrect tools and select which
template to view/limit the entries, however I would prefer if only those
entries of my custom template automatically be available, not all available
entries from all templates.

If you save the autotext entries in normal.dot (the default) they will be
available for all documents. If you save them in the document templates they
will be available only to the documents created from the templates. You can
use the organizer to move them between templates.

I've tried to minimize my Normal.dot changes and instead have a global
custom.dot I use. I suspect there is no way to keep the normal.dot default
autotext entries showing up by default?

I think Colonel Blip knows that. The problem is that the AutoText dialog
setting appears to be environmental. If you set it for one template, the
setting is "sticky" for all.

Moreover, if you have "All active templates" selected in the AutoText
dialog, then any AutoText entry you create using Alt+F3 is stored in
Normal.dot. If you want to save specific entries in a custom template, you
have to either go to Insert | AutoText | AutoText and select the specific
template, or you have to select that template in the dialog, after which
entries created using Alt+F3 will be saved in that template, but entries
from other templates won't be available in that or any other document until
you change the setting back.

It could be argued that being able to set the AutoText environment for a
specific template would be valuable; it could, of course, be done with an
AutoNew or AutoOpen macro, but some users don't like VBA solutions.

Have you changed the "Look in" setting in the AutoText dialog from "All
active templates" to just your specific one?

Yes, that is how I keep the list to what I want when I am using Word.
Howver, next time I startup Word it is back to the whole group of active
templates.
