Default Contact Search

I have the same exact problem in Vista with MS Outlook 2007. I tried
rebuildind the index from Control Panel and nothing. I inserted this contact
Robyn Whatever and it cannot find it. But if I go into a new email and click
the "To" button, it finds it. Nothing I add or change now will be found. It
keeps saying that it is in the middle of indexing but that has gone on for
days. Something is wrong with the program because I have done nothing
different. I have almost 400 contacts and this is a pain.

Try rebuilding the index - Control panel, indexing options, advanced.

I already had rebuilt the index (which took a while), and nothing. Same
problem. I cannot find a lot of contacts by search, but they are there as I
can find them alphabetically. Something changed!!!!

I will check what the WDS engine is. But something is wrong with the Contact
Indexing. I sync my contacts (almost 400) to my phone (Blackjack II), and on
my phone I can search anything and it comes up superfast. On Outlook
Contacts there is a banner on top that says it is not done indexing, and that
has been there for days, even when I re index everything. It sucks and I did
nothing to it for it to happen that way. It is a program error I bet and it
will be fixed in time, and nobody is saying anything in the meantime.

Default Contact Search

Hi all - I am having the exact same problem (Outlook 2007): first it started
a few months ago out of the blue with new contacts not being found when typed
into the "search all contact items" box (instant search); then some weeks
later, no contacts were returned at all....even if I type in just one letter,
say "e", which should return just about any contact.
It makes contacts pretty useless, and VERY frustrating.
I did everything I can think of, turn indexing on/off, rebuild the index,
also tried to use the scanpst tool, but it comes back "scnpst32.dll is
missing". ("Microsoft is looking for a solution", but of course does not come
back with one....).
Btw., I can search mails and that works fine....
All the other PC's in my home do not have the problem (yet!).
I suspect it all started with some update, but I cannot put my fingers on
it, since it's automatic.

The most frustrating part is that A LOT OF USERS are having the problem, but
no one from MS is showing up in the various threats, or working to address
the problem.
There is clearly a fundamental bug here that needs to be fixed!

I have been having the same problem with Outlook 2007 for about a year now.
Has there been any news on how to fix it? Seems like it has been a noted
problem for quite some time. Thanks.

Default Contact Search

OKAY everyone. yes, I had the CONTACT SEARCH problem as well. Its strange
that nobody from Microsoft or MVP's don't know about this problem because
i've searched and have seen alot about it.

READY? Here is the FIX.

In Outlook 2007, Click CONTACTS in the navigation pane. In the upper right
corner of the Contacts pane should be a search box that says Search All
Contact Items very light. To the right of that search box is a dropdown
arrow. Click it and choose SEARCH OPTIONS. In the Search Options window, in
the middle is the SEARCH section. UNCHECK the DISPLAY SEARCH RESULTS AS I
TYPE WHEN POSSIBLE box.
My search started working again after I did this. Even when I rechecked the
box.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ("Elvis")

Don't forget to remember the millions that gave there lives and limbs for
the freedoms most of us are unaware that we have. Memorial Day

Hi, I have a similar problem. I can't search in Contacts in Office 2007. I
get nutty messages like '34,679 items remaining to be indexed'. Does anyone
have an answer or is there a Knowledged based article on this subject? I
never had the problem in Office 3003
