Default Error message "DDE connection"

Sorry if this is some where deep in the archives, I didn't
dig past page 5 or so.

When I try to do a mailing lable merge from Excel I keep
getting this message.

"Word cannot re-establish a DDE connection to Microsoft
Excel to complete the requested task."

O/S is Win'98
Both Excel and Word are 2000.

Is this possibly a missing .dll file? This is a work
computer so it takes like a week for my IT people to
respond to a call. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
