Default Word To Excel Links

Hi all.

I have a word document, of which I am adding 5 or 6
links to charts coming from Excel spreadsheets in
the one workbook - Here is my problem.

When I get the right charts I want in the word document,
I save it. Now when I re-open the word document, each of
the chart links now display exactly the same chart.

For example.

Lets say that page one has a pie chart, and page two has
a bar graph. The last char that I update (with right click
menu option), is exactly the same chart that shows up for
both pages after closing and re-opening the word document.

Can anyone suggest a way to resolve this behaviour ?

Thanks.

Hi Chris,
You should be displaying what your link looks like
when it works, and what it looks like when it doesn't work. The primary
thing with links are do they work from your web browser,
if they do you then I think you should have no problem
in using the links from Excel or from MS Word.
http://groups.google.com/groups?thre...GP10.phx .gbl

do you have a server reference as your link.

Where do the files reside and how is the link formed.

With a word document you have one file,
http://mywebsite.com/mywords.doc#references

with Excel you have a collection of worksheets and possibly
other sheets so the link is more complex.

Default Word To Excel Links

Hi David - Thanks for the help.

I think I may not have described exactly what I was asking.

I have an Excel workbook with 6 sheets. Three of the sheets
contain pivot tables, and the other three sheets contain
bar and pie charts based on the pivot tables.

Now in a Word document, I am inserting an OLE object ?, then
I check the link checkbox, so that when the spreadsheet is
updated, the objects in the Word doc(in this case bar and pie
charts).

When I insert the right charts into each page of the word doc,
everything is fine, however, when I save and exit out of the
word doc, and re-open it, all my charts in the word doc are
the same one and only chart that was active before I saved it,
so I have three of the same charts on each page.

When this happens, then I have to right click on each chart
object in the word doc, and then select edit, opens up the
Excel spreadsheet, select the chart I want, save Excel, exit.

While the word doc is still now open, now if I right click and
select update, the right chart appears. I want the right charts
to display when I open the word doc, instead of them all being
the same one.

Does this explain better what I'm having trouble with ?

Thanks again.
Chris Val
