Default how to edit the attachments of Outlook 2007 without saving them ?

this is a feature I have used in Outlook 2003 (or earlier version, am not
sure) without a hitch, but do not know how to implement in 2007.

when I got a mail with attachment (say Word), I would normally double click
on the attachment to open it, edit or review and then close the attachment.
when i save the email the edited/reviewed attachment used to get saved. I
would then send it back to the sender, who now received the reviewed
document. This way, I could save myself the trouble of storing reviewing and
re-attaching the documents. This worked very well, when I did not have to
store those documents. I knew it was not a security-proof feature, but what
the heck ?

Now, when I open an attachment in 2007, it always opnes in "Read-Only" mode
and that forces me to revert to a method (of saving, reviewing and
reattaching) that I do not like.

Is there a method available in 2007 similar to what I am used to (explained
above)?

thanks for your comments/help.

Very, very bad practice.

If you open it from the Reading Pane, it will be read-only. If you open it
from an open message, it should be read/write. I would recommend you don't
work this way, however. It is fraught with problems.

Yes, Brian, I will not do that again (never in my life again)!! I have grown
older and more mature and hence more security-conscious! Thanks for your help.

Only if the attachment filetype provided for that feature, PDF files for
instance.

Brian,

Can the read only be forced in the Outlook 2003 client? Even when
opened through the message?
