Default HTML Sig Files

Hi,

I have been using OE for the past couple of years and had a signature file
created in HTML (in MS Word). I wanted to add a line to it, and when I did,
I kept getting the "signature file is too large and will be truncated" error.

When I opened the file and deleted the added line and re-saved, I figured
that the error would go away..... but I still get it!

I wanted to use HTML rather than the Text option so I could use bold and
italics in my signature rather than plain text.

It was my understanding that the 4kb limit for a signature was from BEFORE
you could use HTML and that the limitation was not there when this format was
used. Was I incorrect? How can I make it smaller..... the file shows up as
5kb?

Is there an advantage to saving in a particular one of the HTML options in
Word (HTML or Single file HTML)?

Anyone with an idea? I would really appreciate it.

My understanding is 4KB when finished, total. Is creating it in OE an option
for what you want to do?

Open a New Message window and create your signature. Click the Source Tab.
(View | Source Edit if not already checked). Highlight the entire source
code and copy / paste into Notepad. File | Save As and in the File Name
field, save as an htm file, (i.e. Sig1.htm). It will be saved to My
Documents by default. Go to Tools | Options | Signatures. Click: File |
Browse and Insert your saved signature | Apply. You can rename it now if you
wish. Of course, if the recipient is reading in Plain Text, they won't see
it.

That did the trick.... THANKS!!!!

Another question, though..... how can I also include a graphic in my
signature? Tried to copy & paste in the edit tab in OE and could not paste.
This option was grayed out. If I try in MS Word.... again, the file becomes
too large.

Put the graphic in the new message window anlong with the text. Click the
Source tab and you will see something like this:

!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"
HTMLHEAD
META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"
META content="MSHTML 6.00.2900.2963" name=GENERATOR
STYLE/STYLE
/HEAD
BODY bgColor=#ffffff
DIVIMG alt="" hspace=0
src="C:\Documents and Settings\Bruce\My Documents\My
Pictures\Too_Much_Computer.gif"
align=baseline border=0/DIV/BODY/HTML

This is what you have to copy and paste to NotePad and continue with the
instructions.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but how exactly do I put it in the new message?
As I said in the last post, I opened the graphic file, selected it, and
copied it into the clipboard. But once I was back in OE, I could not paste
it. The option is grayed out from the EDIT menu and CONTROL-V did nothing!
Is there another way to insert the graphic into the new message?

Where is the graphic saved? Let's say it is a small GIF in My Pictures. Open
a New Message window and Insert | Picture and browse to My Pictures, just as
if you were going to e-mail the GIF to someone. Add the text of the Sig and
then click the Source tab to get the code to copy and paste to Notepad.

Don't use Word for the image. Its HTML is all screwed up.

Save the htm file if you must from Word as Filtered html.

Then open the HTML file in Notepad and add the reference to the image as
follows in the body:

IMG src="File://myimages/myimage.gif"

make sure you put the full path to the image in the src.

In Notepad, File, Save As, put Sig1.htm in quotes, then you don't have to
change the file types to all files.
"Sig1.htm"
If you don't change the file type or use quotes, the file will be saved as
Sig1.htm.txt .
