new install of excel with crazy problem
I just bought a new computer from Dell (Widows XP). The
first thing I did was install all security updates, and anti-virus updates. I then install office xp pro. The first time I open excel it says "the last time you open file"file name" the add in failed. Do you want to disable this add in. I answer yes. Then starts openeing files with the same message. I dont even know how it found the files. All other applications in the suite have no problems. Anyone seen this before? |

This feature is new in xl2002. It's trying to protect itself against bad
workbooks. You can find the list (and re-enable them) under Help|About MS Excel|Disabled items. I don't know what files are being disabled (are they *.xls (or *.xla) files). If not, then maybe you've told excel to open too many files. There's an option under Tools|options|general tab called: "At startup, open all files in:" Maybe you have an entry there. (most people leave this empty) On the other hand, if these are really excel files, then it sounds like the files are truly corrupted. If these are files that come with excel, then maybe a deinstall/reinstall is required. If these are your own older files, then maybe going back and getting fresh copies (from your old pc) will help.
