Default Office 2003 Professional Student

We had Office 2003 Pro Student installed on a laptop that died. I want to
reinstall it on the new laptop, but it says that we have installed it on the
max. number of computers. It is installed on only 2 machines since the 3rd
one died. Can it be installed on new computer or will I have to buy new
software?

There was no such version as Office Pro Student. You either had Office
Professional or you had Office Student and Teacher. Which?

But there is a 2003 Pro Academic licence, at least here.

Yes, there is such a version but that's not what the OP said. Before I make
any suggestions, I prefer to get the exact information. ;-)
