Les here you help me solve my issue with message rules and moving to folders.

Now my question is I saved my old e-mail messages in the original outlook
folder that they were in, is there any way that I can view these if I have to.

Hi LES,

Others will be able to help, too. That said, could you elaborate on what
you've done?

The OE message store contains the data base files (*.dbx). There are files
for the folders in OE and the messages they contain. The *.dbx files can be
copied to another (Windows) folder for backup purposes, but they cannot be
viewed until 'imported' into OE. The master indexing file, Folders.dbx,
needs to be included for the import process to work.

Outlook Express messages can also be saved in a Windows folder (or dragged
from OE to Windows folder), which results in *.eml files that can be opened
from that location. There are two drawbacks to *.eml files kept this way --
the *.eml files are larger than the message store files and they cannot be
arranged by date. They can be dragged back to an OE folder to restore better
sorting, if necessary.

I'm not sure what is meant by saving messages in the original outlook
folder, but I'm sure this can be quickly made clear with some more
information on what has been done.

Get OETool (www.oehelp.com/OETool/) and OEQB (www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/) and
put them in the same directory. Then there is a button in OETool that will
run OEQB and backup to 3 levels of redundancy just with a click of the
button.

Both are free.

What I did was before I deleted the master indexing file or folder I saved
the Outlook Express folder out of it that contained all the dbx files. After
outlook created the new master indexing file everthing worked fine. I then
tried to insert the old dbx files into the Oulook Express folder of the
master indexing. After doing that I was back at the original problem. So went
back and delteted the maste indexting file or folder and after Outlook
Express remade it, it was ok again. I would like to know if there is a way to
insert the old dbx files and make them work with Outlook Express without any
problems or is there away to viwe the emails in these dbx files another way.
I hope I am clear enough in what I am saying

Do you need to do anything besides review these messages? Create a second
identity, File | Identity | Add New Identity. Then, File | Import |
Messages. Select: Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and then Import from an OE
store directory and point to where you saved the messages.

Hi LES,

I would suggest moving the old (*.dbx) folder files to a folder on the
Desktop. To import these files there needs to be an OE folder of the same
name.

Something that worked for me in a test situation was creating a folder named
"Test" in OE. After closing and opening OE I copied Folders.dbx in the OE
message store and pasted this file into the Desktop backup folder (with the
OE local folder *.dbx files). Before importing I renamed a (*.dbx) file to
match the Test folder name. Example: Business.dbx would be renamed Test.dbx.
I could then import this folder file into OE. After importing, the messages
can be moved to another OE folder and the process repeated.

Check back in the next day for other suggestions. Others can offer other
methods that might be simpler or better to accomplish your task. If there
are problems they can be dealt with.
