Default negative number default

We have recently switched from Excel 97 to Excel 2000 and
we have also switched from Windows NT to Windows 2000 on a
Citrix server.

*Previously I was able to change the regional settings to
a number format of (1.1) and a currency format of ($ 1.1)
and Excel would allow these formats to be choosen under
the default formats.

*Now, even though my regional settings have been set to
display brackets for negative amounts, Excel will not
recognize them. I have had to reformat many of the cells
in many of my worksheets to a custom format to get the
brackets to display instead of the dash.

Is there an easier way to fix this?
