Can I convert my visio (.vsd) file to an xls (excel) file?

Visio has the ability to save in many file formats however you cannot save
it as xls, so the short answer is no. You can certainly use Excel as a data
source to generate certain types of drawings such as Organization drawings.
For example if you have a properly structured Organization drawing it can be
exported to an Excel spreadsheet. You can even use Excel to link data to
your Visio drawing.
