Default Hotmail copies incoming OE mail to deletes

This is just a minor annoyance. I use OE6, but periodically check Hotmail to
see if any valid mail was passed into the "junk" file. I noticed a few weeks
ago that every incoming email is now copied to "deletes" in Hotmail on its
way to OE. Any one know how to stop this happening?

Is it a free Hotmail account or are you a Hotmail Plus subscriber? If the
latter, are you accessing the account via POP3?

Are you saying that downloading the messages to OE automatically deletes the
messages from your inbox and moves them to Deleted Items folder at
www.hotmail.com?

Is there a group of Hotmail-specific folders in the OE Folders pane?

1) To the best of my knowledge, it is a free Hotmail acccount - but my OE
mail arrives via that account.

2) No - nothing that drastic.

First, an email arrives in the Hotmail account. It sits in the Hotmail
Inbox. (I can check that by signing on the the Hotmail account.) Next, I
crank up OE6 and bring in the mail from the Hotmail account, and it is
received just fine in the OE Inbox. But in the process of passing the mail
from Hotmail to OE, Hotmail stores a copy of it in Hotmail "Deleted Items".
So everything works OK and nothing is missing. I am just perplexed that
Hotmail is unecessarily filling up the "Deleted Items" folder. Not a big
deal.

3) I just have the default folders in OE plus a few I created for specific
topics. Hotmail is 100% default as I only access it to see if real mail is in
the junk mail folder.

The contents of your Junk Mail folder should be seen in the Bulk Mail folder
in OE so you shouldn't need to access the folder at the webpage.

That being said, the behavior you describe is very unusual, Kman. Your
current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default "Main
Identity". Try your Hotmail account in a new Named Identity...

File | Identities | Add new identity

Assuming all is well, (1) compact all folders in the old identity, (2)
import any messages from the old identity's Local folders into the new
identity...

- See http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importOE5

- No need to import anything from the Hotmail-specific folders

....and then (3) delete the old identity (via File | Identities | Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items (the local or Hotmail-specific folders) to
archive messages. Move them to local folders you've created for this
purpose.

- Empty both Deleted Items folders daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:
