Default Importing Outlook Express Folders

A few months ago I cleaned up my Outlook Express (OE6 I think) mail folders
by copying them on to a CD, then deleting the originals.

Now I am having trouble importing them.

According to what I've been told, I should be able to import them by:
.. opening Outlook Express
.. click File, select Import, then Messages
.. click on either Microsoft Outlook Express 4 or 5, then click Next
.. place a dot next to Import mail from an OE5 store directory, Click OK
.. click browse. Locate the folder in which you stored your backup copy of
your e-mail files
.. click on its name once to highlight it, Click OK and Next
.. select All Folders, Click Next
.. click Finish

My problem is that I can't get past "click on either Microsoft Outlook
Express 4 or 5, then click Next". To start with, I am not offered an Outlook
Express 5 option - only Outlook Express 4 or Outlook Express 6. If I choose
4, it brings up a box prompting me for the location of the messages. I use
the Browse function to indicate Drive D (where the folders were copied to)
but it brings up a message saying that no folders could be found in this
location or the application is open (and suggests I try closing the
application). When I choose the O6 option, it gives me the choice to select
an OE6 store location. When I select Drive D (for the CD) it gives me a
similar message as when I chose OE4.

I am never able to get as far as "place a dot next to Import mail from an
OE5 store directory, Click OK"

I've tried copying the stored files from the CD to Desktop, etc. but
continue to get the same messages.

Can someone please help me find a way to import some of the messages/folders
I have stored on CD?

With thanks

Default Importing Outlook Express Folders

Copy the CD to your HDD. Open the folder and Select All to highlight all the
dbx files. Right click and remove the Read Only attribute from each dbx
file. Close the folder.

In OE: File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and
Import from an OE6 Store Directory and point to where you saved it. You can
import all folders, or individual ones.

Note: If you did not include Folders.dbx in your backup, the import process
will not work and you will have to do each folder manually.

See this about restoring individual dbx files:
