Default Problem with Outlook Express after downloading OE7

Downloaded IE7. I have XP with service pack 3. When I click on the OE
shortcut icon, the system locks up when the (blue) window with Outlook
Express 6 appears. I have to reboot the computer. I can otherwise access the
internet OK, and use the system normally, that is until I try to access OE.
Any help to resolve this would be appreciated.

Default Problem with Outlook Express after downloading OE7

You downloaded SP3 while you had IE6 and then upgraded to IE7. Is this
correct? You may have a bad install of either / or especially if your
anti-virus was running during the install process of either program.

Read the following regarding IE7 and SP3. I believe your best option would
be to remove both programs and then install IE7 first. Make sure it is
working OK and then install SP3.

Take heed of all the installation guidelines for both programs.

For IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips = Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then
STOP!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
(ignore any references to Vista)

And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update, or this Direct Download
link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

For Windows XP - Service Pack 3:

If SP3 was downloaded with an anti-virus, or anti-spyware, program running,
you may have a bad installation.

From: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../cc164204.aspx

* If the configuration of your antivirus software prevents certain system
files from being changed, SP3 installation might fail. Try temporarily
disabling your antivirus software. You can usually do this by right-clicking
your antivirus program icon (which typically appears in the bottom
right-hand corner of the computer screen) and clicking Disable.

* If you disable your antivirus software before you install the service
pack, be sure that you are aware of the risks involved, and be sure to
enable it after the service pack is installed.

Remove SP3 via Add/Remove Programs, reboot and download and install it
again. Before you do, turn off your anti-virus and any anti-spyware programs
such as Windows Defender. If you use a third party firewall, disable it and
turn on the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel for the installation. Once
SP3 is in and working, you can enable the third party firewall and turn of
the Windows Firewall. Do not keep both running.
