Default Hotmail HTTP server access denied out of blue

About a week ago the Hotmail HTTP server began denying me access, out of the
blue:
Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail
(HTTP)', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp',
Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Authorization Required', Port: 0,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32
Whenever I try to access the Hotmail account now, I repeatedly get a Logon
window specifying the Hotmail HTTP server and asking for my User Name and
Password. For years before this I had no problem accessing the their HTTP
server via OE. My Hotmail account is in good standing and I have no problem
logging into their webpage, nor any problem using Passport (same account).
I have made no changes and I have not had any other internet problems or
other OE mail account access problems. Contacting Hotmail support, I was
directed to OE support, but I cannot find an e-mail OE support address or
link. However, I believe that this is a Hotmail server error. Has anyone
else experienced this and/or is anyone aware of a solution or where I should
see help?

Hi XB77,

Can you think of anything that might have been done that coincides with the
connection problem?

One possibility (for the error) reported by RonV.

Turned out to be the setting in Internet Options/Security/Custom. I had
changed the log on option from prompt for user name and password to
anonymous in an effort to try and recreate a problem a friend was having and
totally forgot about it. Changed it back and fixed the issue with Hotmail.

Bingo! Thank you very much Tim and Ron. (You wouldn't believe the idiocy
that I've been getting from Hotmail support.) I was wrong, I had changed
something. I was fooling around with my custom security settings for IE
after reading that if one selected High, one could avoid getting hacked via
a highjacked or malicious website. Apparently in getting back to the
workable, if more dangerous settings that I had had previously, I had set
Anonymous Logon and although none of my other mail servers cares, nor any of
my online accounts, the Hotmail HTTP server doesn't like that. So the IE
security setting for Logon is now set to "Prompt for User Name and
Password," which Hotmail's HTTP server accepts, as before without prompting
me (and rejecting the correct answer as I had been having a problem with).

You're welcome, XB77. Glad it's working again. Thanks for confirming the
error and solution.
