Check that everything is configured as on this page.
http://www.ntlworld.com/help/settings.htm

Your Anti Virus application may have altered the settings.

As you are posting via the web and not using Outlook Express as your
newsreader, I would guess that the MS site would use a USA timezone. To
check yours, double click your time at the bottom right and check your
time zone is correct.

Hi… Kath

Thanks and Hat’s off to people like you; for taking the time out your
busy day to help us.

This is correct I can send E-Mails but now I can’t receive them?
Which is similar to several other people’s problem on this forum that
are in all probability like me, have not changed their settings? One
minute you can receive E-Mail; then the next you can’t?

This last error message of mine was copied and pasted from outlook
express, but with regards to your reply about SMTP and my error
message POP? I know I have seen SMTP somewhere but for the life of me
I’m lost?

Had another look at previous posting on this site and have now
noticed this difference 17356 octets in my error message?

Followed your link

Error 0x800ccc0d or 0x800ccc0f when Receiving and Sending E-Mail
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514

And this is the closest to my error from the symptoms

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long
period of inactivity. Account. account name, Server: 'server name',
Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK',? Port: 110, Secure(SSL): N0,
Error Number: 0x800ccc0f

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible

POP.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK 17356
octets', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

As for the CAUSE or sever setting’s you will have to walk me through
them as I’m not technically minded at all, and would appreciate your
knowledge and help in checking my setting’s. I have marked in red
where I think somehow it’s been altered, but as for the where’s / how
and when this happened?

+ I’ve noticed the time difference of -8hr, I posted at 11am’ish BST
and it say 3:08 PST?

Hi… Kath

Thanks again for all your help and Hat’s off to you folk for taking the time out your busy day to help us.

Nobody has come up with an explanation for “17356 octets” in my error message? But as I’m not technically minded probably just as well unless the answer was in English lol.

Having taken your advice; tried countless settings, even trying to restoring my PC to well before this error, only to be told by system restore that it couldn’t complete (what!!!) the task and nothing had been altered. Immediately there after I noticed things have gone missing from my desktop and quick launch bar? “ Ntl Broad Band Medic” had also gone so I couldn’t get back to them, just as well as they were no hoper’s; they screwed up my firewall and K9 Spam filter, and I can’t get them working at all, but I’ve managed to get hold of a firewall temporary who knows it could even be permanent.

Then when I tried to come back here for more assistance, it said ActiveX control was needed, I’m thinking it’s time to giving up now!

Sorted most of the thing out that went missing after restore then I did a scan disk that came up clean no errors. Again I was at a loss and still no E-mails.

This is the weird bit my E-mails seem to have come back on their own? All 103 of them, after I’d sent some more E-mail out completely mystifying me!

So apart from error message that I get now; after I’ve sent and received my E-mails all appears to well.

Regards El Tel

PS

Can anybody get rid of the duplicate messages Thanks?

I can't find any English references to "17356 octets" and have no idea
what it means. Google came up with all these "French" sites....

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...G=Search&meta=

Just be glad that all is now well.
A question though, partly because you mention duplicate mails, is this a
Hotmail account, or your account with the ISP?

Kath,

Do a Mail trace and look at the POP3.log

Enough of a hint?

Default Cant Receive E-Mails 0x800CCC0F

Hi’a Kath

Yes I was very glad to get E-mails once again yesterday, and many thanks for all your help. “Whoop’s” Then approx 2Hr later I kept getting an error message on sending that have been listed in this forum before? All ended well last night, there must be something wrong with my server or PC; this morning it will not take my name and password? Weird I haven’t changed any settings at all.

With regards to hotmail, when I first got my PC everyone told me about hotmail, but for some reason when I tried to sign up I had to sign out of .Net Passport; then it would not accept the “punctuation” / “full stop” between my first.surname@ntl’etc? And I couldn’t find a way round this. I only have one account ISP is with ntl. I’ve not looked into any others just in case I run into the same problem mentioned as above.

I know I a type slow (LOL) but I have just received three E-mails and not one error message “ooh spooky” My PC must work in the third dimension other than what I tell it to!

Thanks for looking into 17356 octets; I will have a look through the google link soon. In the mean time if you come up with anything with Robert hint let us know Please?

Regards El Tel
