Default Netscape Mail and IE6

Hello,

My agency has specified that its employees use the Netscape browser and
Netscape Mail for their Internet needs.

On certain occasions, our employees must use Internet Explorer 6 to access
web pages which function better in IE than Netscape.

Awkwardly enough, there are "mailto:" addresses in some of those IE-specific
web pages, and when our employees click the "mailto:" links, IE6 tries to
open Outlook Express as a client to compose and send the mail.

After some futile attempts to explain that it might be better to set up OE
to handle these situations, I've decided to ask if it's possible for
Internet Explorer to be set up to open the Netscape Mail client when
clicking a "mailto:" link.

I see that when I go into IE's Tools/Internet Options/Programs tab, one can
specify Netscape Mail as the e-mail program, but this has not worked, and I
wonder if I'm missing something.

Can anyone advise me?

Sincerely,
Don Hicks
Portland, Oregon

Did you try and go into Netscape's preferences to designate it as the
default email program?

Yes, I had already double-checked that Netscape's preferences show it as
the default e-mail program before posting to this list...

It was a good guess, though!

Thanks,
Don.

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types
3. Locate the following: URL:MailTo Protocol .
4. Click "edit", highlight "open", click "edit"
5. Under "application used to perform action", use "browse" to navigate to
Netscape.exe and select it.

Should work.

How do you like the new Netscape email as compared to Outlook Express 6?

IMHO many depends on that do _you like_ and what do _you need_ but AFAIC
Netscape (Mozilla) is technically much better program than OE.
