Default Access 97 forms crash when trying to add fields, labels, buttons etc.

I've been running and modifying 2 Access 97 databases for
some years now. The application consists of a forms
database and a data database. Current size of the forms
db is about 6Meg. after compacting & repairing. Access
will now crash whenever I try to modify forms by adding a
new field or other object to the form. I have tried
several reloads of Access which initially seemed to fix
the problem for one or two sessions [NT platform]. Now
this no longer helps. My more recent fix has been to
modify on another machine, but even this has now succumbed
to the problem. [We will eventually move to Access 2002,
but only when we go away from NT, and not yet say the IT
people]. Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Steve,

The following method seems to clean up mdb files that have been changed
a lot... it's worth a try. Decompile and re-compile the code. And make
a new mdb file, import all objects from the existing database, compact.
