Missing email messages
I need really simple instructions to restore email into folders in OE. I
believe that the .DBX files are still in the computer. What is a simple (I said simple again) to do that? THANKS! -- Randy |

Missing email messages
You need to post a more specific question. Are folders empty? Are some
messages missing? What folders are messages missing from? etc. Some general OE advice: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. Clear the Temporary Internet Files often. In IE | Tools | Internet Options | Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content. And backup often. Missing email messages
Only some of the emails from some of the folders are missing. It appears
random, some are new, some are old. Some new remain, some old remain. I have found the path to the .DBX files, but do not know how to get those back as email messages in the folders. Is that clear? -- Randy "Bruce Hagen" wrote: You need to post a more specific question. Are folders empty? Are some messages missing? Missing email messages
It is clear. They were probably lost due to either folders that were too
large, or failure to compact regularly. Either of these tools has a decent chance of recovering your messages. In the future, please heed the advice I gave in my first reply to avoid this situation. DBXtract: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx DBXpress: {much faster for large files} http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx Good luck. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "rgsea" wrote in message ... Thanks for the help. I will download one of the programs this evening. I
will also follow your other advice regarding size and compacting. -- Randy "Bruce Hagen" wrote: It is clear. Missing email messages
I downloaded and ran the DBXpress program. It found the .dbx files and I
went through the process. It appears the only files found are the ones that were not deleted in OE. SO, it appears that the deleted files are probably gone. Any other suggestions??? As Frank said, run DBXpress and select the Drive radio button and the entire
hard drive. Do not check recover mode. Then set an output path to an existing directory and click on extract. That will analyze the entire hard drive disk clusters. If you have problems email me. steve "rgsea" wrote in message ... I downloaded and ran the DBXpress program. It found the .dbx files and I went through the process.
