Default Formatting Change Nightmare - HELP!

Hi all,
I selected my fax machine as teh printer for a certian document in word (as
I have done successfully a million times before) when I ewent back to my
document, most of the text was shoved togther on the left side in a pile of
letters or symbols or who can tell what(kerning appears fine as do spacing
settings)
Plus, I have word (2003) making enough styles to confuse anyone. I need to
work on this stuff - how do i do my formatting and then ttell word to stay
out of it - also, is there any way I can get my formatting back? I tried und,
undo, no avail.
Thanks.

Your first problem at least gives a clue to one possible cause of this
"pileup" problem, which a lot of users have reported. As for the latter,
what you're seeing is not styles but formatting. On the Edit tab of Tools |
Options, clear the check box for "Keep track of formatting."
