POP3 Fails
I just bought a new machine with Windows XP Pro and cannot access one of my
mail accounts. Here's what occurs: Connected Receiving list of messages from server Receiving messages 1 of 15 Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'Bad Dog Blues', Server: 'www.baddogblues.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK 285 octets follow.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F This happens every time. I can access this account through Yahoo without any problems. I have turned off all firewalls, anti-virus and nothing works. In what may be a related issue I also have problems connecting to my server via ftp. Any help would be appreciated. -Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
Can you delete the first message when accessing the account through the Web page? If the problem message can be removed Outlook Express should return to normal operation. I don't suspect a connection with the FTP problem. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MVP - (IE/OE) Lynnwood, WA * wrote in message ... Does the mail server offer a web access to your Inbox? Sounds like you may
have a "stuck" message that is not downloading completely. If they do not offer a web interface, try using telnet to connect to the mail server and review and clear your Inbox. You can find added Telnet instructions at: http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...pop3telnet.htm Go to start/run and type the following: telnet {pop3 server name} 110 - hit enter, don't type the brackets. user {your username} - hit enter pass {your password} - hit enter There are various commands available: list (will return all messages) retr (whatever number will retrieve that message) dele (+ number will delete that number message) -- Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express Please reply only to newsgroup. wrote in message ... I do not have web access to this account. Telnet doesn't work because my
incoming mail server is my domain name. As for a "stuck" message I have been pulling my e-mail from the pop server via Yahoo. If there was a "stuck" message wouldn't Yahoo come back with a similar error message regarding my pop3 server as outlook does? -Jeff "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... Don't know what to tell you. Yahoo doesn't give very intelligent error
messages that I've seen. I thought Yahoo had done away with POP mail service in Outlook Express except for those users who live in countries outside the US. What does Yahoo say when you ask them? -- Jim Pickering, MVP-Outlook Express Please reply only to newsgroup. "Jeff" wrote in message ... I do not have web access to this account. In article , Jim Pickering says...
I thought Yahoo had done away with POP mail service in Outlook Express except for those users who live in countries outside the US. They did away with free POP3/SMTP service for people in the yahoo.com domain; you can pay them $19.99 U.S. a year for the privilege of POP3/SMTP service. And SBC, BT, and Rogers Cable customers get access to Yahoo! POP3/SMTP servers as a part of their ISP packages; SBC Yahoo! DSL (or Dial- Up) Service, BT Yahoo! Internet Service, and Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet Service, respectively. http://sbc.yahoo.com http://bt.yahoo.com http://rogers.yahoo.com -- Norman ~Win dain a lotica, En vai tu ri, Si lo ta ~Fin dein a loluca, En dragu a sei lain ~Vi fa-ru les shutai am, En riga-lint |
