Default Word 2003 question background fill feature

Hi all,

I need some help please,

Here are the steps I'm taking:

starting with a Blank page, I click on "Format/Background/Fill
Effects" and then on the window that comes up, it opens on the
"Gradient" tab, The top section is labeled "Colors", and I choose
"Preset", then drop the preset menu and choose "Rainbow".

The next section of that window is "Transparency" which is greyed out,
though I think this is where I should be able to control the
intensity, so HOW do I get that to work??????

The next section is split in half - the left half is labeled "Shading
Styles" and the right half is labeled "Variants".. on the left I
choose "Diaganol Down" and on the right I choose the upper left option
(there are 4 options) and click OK

The resulting page background is way too intense, so how do I control
THAT?

Thanks,
niteowl

Transparency is not available when you apply the fill effects using the
steps you have taken to create the effect. Transparency is available in the
dialog when you create a text box and choose fill effects from the drawing
toolbar. You could draw a text box to fit the page if you want the effect to
cover the whole page.

Paul,

I was unable to make this work the way you are describing...

I cannot find the dialogue to create the background I want (the preset
rainbow) in the drawing toolbar.

I tried creating a text box the size of the entire page, then tried to
fill it, nada!! tried making the text box, not as big as the page,
still no transparency available.. now I am assuming since the
transparency has sliders that I should be able to control the
intensity of that background there, but I can't get it to be active...

Would you please give me a step by step on how you would do this...
I'm stumped!! I tried for half an hour, every option I could thnk
of, but still can't get what I want to come up for me.

What I want is that rainbow background, but I want to be able to
control it and make it almost like a watermark I guess, if there was
an image of that background somewhere I could do it, but creating it
with the fill effect menu options, it's not giving me the control I
need.

thanks for your help,

niteowl

Hi niteowl,

Below are the exact steps:
1. Launch Word
2. Click the menu Insert--Text Box--Horizontal
3. Drag your mouse to create a text box (You can resize it after creating.)
4. Click the menu View--Toolbars
5. Check the toolbar Drawing (By default, toolbar Drawing is located at the
bottom of the window.)
6. Choose the text box, click the fill button on the Drawing toolbar
7. Click the button "Fill Effects"

Now the option Transparency is available.

Hope this helps.
