macros are disabled message
I just installed Office 2003 standard. When I opened Word for the first
time I got the macros are disabled message. It seemed to be caused by _stamps.dot which is located in Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup . I renamed it and now I don't get the message every time I start. I move the create envelope to the tool bar and now I get "macro cannot be found or has been disabled..." I've done a google search and can't seem to find anything applicable. Any ideas? Thanks, Jimt |

By default, Office macro security is set to high so that any code that
does not contain a digital signature will be disabled. And when you renamed the template, sure you got rid of the message, but that was because you changed the name so it is no longer being install. It is no longer, subsequently, able to find the macro you needed. Rename the template back to what it was. Then go into Word and click Tools Macro Security and set your macro security to medium (never set to low). Then it will ask you to approve the macros. Do so if you want ot use them. Dian D. I went into Word and clicked Tools/Macro/Security and set the macro security
to medium, closed Word and then opened it again.. I've also gone into Tools/Options/Security and under Macro Security I've selected trust all installed add-ins and templates. Every time I open Word I get a Security Warning that "C:\ Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup\_stamps.dot contains macros." It then gives me the option to enable macros or disable macros. Is this normal? When I rename _stamps.dot, Word opens with no such warning and functions just fine. "Dian D. Chapman, MVP" wrote in message ... I've been doing some more reading and it appears there should be an option
to allow a macro to be trusted and then it is added to the trusted publishers list. In my case the Stamps.dot file does not give me that option. How can it be added to the publishers list? (It points to stamps.com which is under Tools/Stamps.com Internet Postage.) Thanks, Jimt "Dian D. Chapman, MVP" wrote in message ... Yes, this is normal.
To stop the warning you either can lower the security to LOW, which is NOT recommended because that would stop all protection against possible macro viruses...or...use only templates that have digital signatures attached to the code. This template does not have a digital signature, since you're not getting a notice to accept one...so manually accepting the macros by clicking ENABLE is what you will need to do. That...or get a better addin that has been signed. If you rename the file then it will not be recognized and, hence, will not get added in to work as it should. Dian D. This isn't anything YOU can do. The originator of the file would need
to add their own digital signature to the code. If they didn't do this, then you don't have much choice but to deal with the warning. You might want to contact the originator and ask them if they have a signed version of the code. Dian D.
