Default Date and Time Query

I have been browsing around here looking for a solution to this problem for a
bit now and thought I might just try asking directly and see if someone can
point me in the right direction.

The database I am querying details patrols performed by our crews over a
number of areas in a river. Enter and exit times are recorded for each area
covered by a crew and multiple crews can be on the water at the same time.

The aim of the query I would like to set up is to give us the total time
patrolled, by
area, for each day. The two 'complications' are that these patrol times
must also be divided into day/night times (divisions at 06:00 and 18:00) for
each day, and times where two patrols are in the same area should only be
counted once.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Regards,
Matthew

I found a solution for querying out the data to remove overlapping times.
