Default Office 2007 has message, requesting virus scan

I had a computer that was presenting this message and could not use Microsoft
Office 2007. The problem was that Norton that was formerly installed was
still lurking around, it evidently was trying to do a virus scan even though
it was unable to do so. I just did a remove of Norton with Vista Program
removal, and then erased any further vestiges on the program left on the
computer. Then did a registry scan and cleaning to remove any entries that
applied to Norton. After restarting computer, Office 2007 worked properly.
The reason that you can't correct the problem by doing anything in Office is
that Norton is the program requesting that it be allowed to do a virus scan.
The only way to get rid of that request was to completely remove Norton and
all references to it.

I try to never use Norton in any computer that I have. That product was
hanging around from when it was installed by HP before it was shipped. The
copy of AVG 8.5 that was run found a Trojan Horse, and thought that was the
problem. Not sure how the problems with Office started, since it had worked
fine before the Trojan Horse showed up. The Trojan Horse was put in the AVG
8.5 Vault and later erased. The computer in question is owned by a friend
now, but it was mine initially. I had seen this problem many times in various
newsgroups, and wanted to let other users know how I had been able to solve
problem. I used the Registry Cleaner to erase all entries to Norton after I
had removed it and anything related to it. That seemed to work just fine. It
took me quite a while to determine that the Office problem was tied into the
Norton request for a virus scan.
