Publishing a webpage w/Publisher 2003
Please tell me what I am doing wrong...
I have created a webpage using Publisher 2003 .. I am using FTP, I have a registered domain name & a host (ipowerweb)... Here is how I am attempting to upload my webpage using Publisher 2003 (See Below) http://support.ipowerweb.com/index.php?id=18 (version 2003, R/H Column).. I am doing.. Publisher is open.. 1. Publish to web 2. FTP add/modify - double click 3. location: ftp://mydomainname.org .. username & password given to me by my host -- ok 4. Open public HTML 5. Save file name as index.html -- save 6. goes to screen that says publishing .. At this point publisher locks up ... Task Manager reads not responding and I have to end task.. Where am I going wrong ? My Questions are; 1. When you get to the add/modify FTP Locations it should be; ftp://mydomainname.org, the username & password (is this the password provided to me by my host ?) 2. After you open the public HTML, it says save file as index.html.. My Question is this; there is a file (public html) that is index.html & one that is domainname.index.html, which file am I to save as index.html ? Is it the entire file ? 3. I can not get it to save.. Any information as to what & where I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks, Scott |

Publishing a webpage w/Publisher 2003
Please tell me what I am doing wrong...
in the future please update your original thread and not start a new one so that the issue can be followed properly. also please note we have a web forum at microsoft.public.publisher.webdesign for posting web topics. I have created a webpage using Publisher 2003 .. I am using FTP, I have a registered domain name & a host (ipowerweb)... Here is how I am attempting to upload my webpage using Publisher 2003 (See Below) http://support.ipowerweb.com/index.php?id=18 (version 2003, R/H Column).. that tutorial looks complete and easy to follow. At this point publisher locks up .. Task Manager reads not responding and I have to end task.. If Publisher is locking up that does not mean you are publishing incorrectly. It means there is a problem with the Publisher program or document. In this case I suspect you have an object(s) on a page(s) that overlaps the document area (white page) and the scratch area (gray outer area). All objects must be fully on the page or off. Double check your Pub file for this situation and correct. Where am I going wrong ? in "assuming" you are publishing incorrectly. My Questions are; 1. When you get to the add/modify FTP Locations it should be; ftp://mydomainname.org, the username & password (is this the password provided to me by my host ?) yes it is. 2. After you open the public HTML, it says save file as index.html.. My Question is this; there is a file (public html) that is index.html & one that is domainname.index.html, which file am I to save as index.html ? Is it the entire file ? the folder publichtml that you are to publish to IS SPECIFIC to your host and NOT applicable elsewhere. Pub 2003 defaults to index.htm, no work is required by you other than clicking the save button. do not over think and over complicate it, the directions they provided are complete, simply follow them. 3. I can not get it to save.. I got that point already. Please, take a deep breath and count to 100. Any information as to what & where I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.. Once you've finished counting and are calm accept the fact that your directions are complete and you took the proper steps. Then review your pub file for the aforementioned issue. You would then correct it and re-attempt to publish. I would also suggest rebooting the pc to make sure you don't still have a connection open between the server and Publisher. Update this thread with your findings. -- David Bartosik - MS MVP for Publisher help: www.davidbartosik.com enter to win Pub 2003: www.davidbartosik.com/giveaway.aspx |
