Default Header size reduction with no text -- how to reduce?

A mystery header is so large it is displacing text, leaving a 4 inch white
area on the page. There is no text in the header. How can I reduce it to
normal dimensions? Thanks!

Press Ctrl+* or click the Show/Hide ¶ button on the Standard toolbar to
display nonprinting characters. Chances are you've got extra empty
paragraphs (indicated by ¶) in the header. Alternatively, on the Layout tab
of Page Setup, make sure that the vertical alignment is set to Top.

Hi LJeff73,

Click Show/hide paragraph marks in the standard toolbar to make hidden text
visible.
Select the -only- paragraph mark in the header and press Ctrl-Space.

If that doesn't work, select the paragraph mark and choose Format |
Paragraph...
Reduce the spacing before or after.

Good luck,
Cooz

Thanks Suzanne. The information you gave fixed my problem too. It was the
vertical allignment setting also. These little items are so frustrating when
you can't solve it. Thanks for taking the trouble of posting your advice.

Suzanne,

I have the same problem with Word in 2003. Where is the vertical alignment
you are talking about? Every new file I open has this issue.

Thanks for your help

Looks like you didn't scroll down far enough to see the original reply. On
the Layout tab of Page Setup, choose Top under "Vertical alignment."
