Default Outlook 6 will not send messages with web site links?

In ,
Mark typed:
Hi, i have spoken to virgin again and it looks like they
have blocked the links to my web sites because they
consider them as spam etc - although i am just using a free
host. Its pretty bad though that they do not send back a
email fail message explaining why so you know whats going
on!

Anyway, i took your advice and set up a gmail account
tonight and sent myself the message and it works fine. I
think i will also use google sites to set up my web site as
well just to be safe than sorry again.

Thank you so much for your help.

All the best,

Mark

You could always get yourself a free Gmail or Hotmail
account, both of which can be accessed in OE.

Mark wrote:
Changing could be my only choice then. I am certain i
have been able to send
massges like this in the past. Thus, if it is virgin i
bet it is related to
their recent email overhaul?

All the best and thank you for your help

"PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote:

You have no control over this, no. But you can get
another ISP, hopefully
one where any such scanning isn't as intrusive.

Mark wrote:
Thank you, is this something i have no control over,
i.e. the virgin server?

"PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote:

Then that leaves us with only one possible cause...

1. Anti-virus filtering on the outgoing (SMTP)
mailserver

....and or the recipient's incoming mailserver.

Mark wrote:
Thank you,

I have created a new identity, but it still doesnt
work.

All versions of Norton have been removed with the
norton tool - this was
one of the first things i did after re-formatting /
fresh reinstall. I used
the tool a few times to make sure!!

Tonight i thought i would do one more test by sending
the message to myself
and a copy to my daughter via web mail. I received
the message fine but
my
daughter did not? I have 5 email adresses with this
account (1 of which
is
my daughters and is on a laptop rather than my pc). I
tried it from each
and got the same result - only the email address
acount that i sent it from
would recieve. Therefore i am not confident in
sending out my CV this way
as i cant be 100% sure that it will work?

I just dont know what to do anymore, i think the
traditional post will be
the only way now?

"PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote:

Since (1) a copy of the sent message (with the
attachment) is found in
Sent
Items folder and since (2) no email scanning is
involved now and since
(3)
you do not see the same behavior when sending via
the webmail page and
since (4) you are not sending via the same outgoing
mailserver when sending via the webmail page as when
sending from OE, [whew] I can only
think of three possible causes for the behavior:

1. Anti-virus filtering on the outgoing (SMTP)
mailserver;

2. A corrupt identity; and/or

3. Persistant Norton "leftovers" (assuming the
Norton free trial /was/
reinstalled when you did the clean install of
Windows using the disk that
came with the computer or the hidden Recovery
partition).

You have no control over #1 so first see if the
behavior persists when
sending such an email with your mail account set-up
in a new identity (File |
Identities | Add new identity).

Mark wrote:
I am sorry, i posted the last reply twice and dont
know how to remove
the
duplicate?

Anyway, i have tried sending the same full message
both from outlook and
webmail. It only works via webmail and this seems
to be my only option
at
the minute. But i would like to try and sort it out
through outlook as
well
please?

thank you - please find below the answers:

1. Yes

2. No

3 + 4a. Separate messages with no message text,
from virgin webmail:

Word - yes to both
PDF - yes to both

3 + 4b. Separate messages with message text + web
link, from virgin webmail:

Word - yes to both
PDF - yes to both

3 + 4c. 1 message with message text + web link,
from virgin webmail:

Word + pdf in same message- yes to both

5. Norton 2002 (full 12 months with pc purchase),
versons 2005 and 360
purchsed later and all removed will norton tool
after subscription ended.
Reformated since to windows only (i.e no extra
software as included with
packard bell pc).

6. I havent had time to do a back up first and not
prepared to risk installing SP3 until i do so (was
going to do it over Christmas 2009).
Only
have a CDR drive to back up 11gb and just dont
have the time at the minute.
Not intending on purchasing a external drive.

I spent 2hrs with virgin yesterday using their on
line chat who accesed
my
pc. They could not fix it and said they would come
back with a solution,
which they havent as yet.

But after answering your questions i have decided
to send the intended
message again from outlook - send, goes into sent
folder but does not
arrive in my inbox or at virgin. I think by the
sound of things it must
be
to do with outlook on my pc?

Hopefully this will shed a bit of light onto this
strange problem?

"PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote:

In no certain order...

1. Does a copy of the sent message show up in
Sent Items folder?

2. Is the message found in your Virgin.net
webmail inbox?

3. If you send the same PDF file as an attachment
from your webmail
page,
does the message & attachment show up in either
inbox?

4. If you do not convert the Word document to a
PDF file and attach
the
DOC file to an email, does the message arrive in
either inbox?

5. Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application
ever been installed on
the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came
preinstalled when you
bought it)?

6. Why hasn't WinXP SP3 been installed yet?

[Extended Support for WinXP SP2 ends on 10 July
2010. After that date,
computers running WinXP SP2 will NOT be offered
any further critical
security updates, Automatic Updates will not
work, and Windows Update
website will not be accessible until SP3 is
installed.]

I have unistalled AVG using their removal tool
as i did not unistal
fully. Changed my mind and installed the
Microsoft Security Essentials,
which has updated and completed its first scan
without any viruses
found.

Afterwards i then re-sent the message and still
havent recieved it?

ok, thank you - i will reinstall tonight. I
have been recomended another
virus checker called
comodo and might give that a try instead.

or Avira
AntiVir
(http://www.free-av.com/en/trialpay_d...antivirus.htm),
both free and much more reliable than AVG IMHO.

Mark wrote:
Yes, the pdf file is an attachment (with a
web link in the text

AVG is configured to set to scan incoming
emails only - i have also
tried
turning this off and resending the message,
but i makes no difference
as
the
message still does not arrive (with a word
file attachement and
a
web
link in the message body)?

I dont think the pdf file is a problem as i
can send and recieve
these. It seesm to be with word file
attachements and web links
with
the message
body.
Thus if i attach a pdf file with this
combination it never arrives?

Thank you

You should check to see if for some reason you are listed on any blacklists.
Someone could have spoofed you as a spam site in their spam runs and ISPs
don't bother to tell people WHY they get restricted. One handy place to
make those checks on all the most relevant list keepers is on webtex.com.
Just enter your web site URL and wait to see how many, if any, block lists
you're on. It also might not be your web site that's the problem: It could
be a neighbor on those servers, and/or your e-mail address, or one of
several things.
IF you ASK your server admin, which I'd recommend, it might go faster too
to see that such doesn't happen in the future. If you have any forms on the
site it could even be spammers figured out how to use them for sending spam;
not unusual and not hard to do if it's not properly protected. Many
possibilities exist but I'll bet your server admin would be happy to discuss
it with you and might even have good advice for you.

file
is my CV and the link relates to my web site where examples of my work can

document
has also been converted as pdf with the web site link. Both document links
work fine outside of outlook express.

The message will send (can see the progress bar), but it is not recieved
and
does not show up on the virgin server? I have sent this to my self to
proove
this. If i re-send the message without the word document, with the
hyperlink
removed from the message body and only the pdf attached, it works fine?

I have enabled pop3 on the virgin server, used the recent virgin message
fix
tool and un-checked "do not allow attachements" within oultook and still
it
wont send the discussed message?

Please can you help me to fix this as i really need to send out my CV with
the web site link, thank you.

I am using:

@virgin.net (email account)
Outlook express 6
XP home service pack 2
Word 2002
adobe reader 9
avg free 8.5
windows firewall

Thank you,
