updating Exchange server name for existing users (using msp or PRF
We are transitioning to Exchange 2007 from 2003. All clients are on Outlook
2007. The new Exchange server has a different name that the old server. I have built an MSP that modifies the Exchange server name. The MSP change works for new profiles on the workstation but not for users who have already logged on to that system. No user has administrative rights. The event log shows that msiexec installed the update without errors. Ideally I would like to apply this update via script (at logon or machine startup). We do not have SMS or similar. Suggestions? Thanks |

updating Exchange server name for existing users (using msp or PRF
Assuming that your Exchange 2007 server was added to the existing Exchange
2003 site, there is nothing you have to do as what should be happening is this... 1) Client closes Outlook (goes home for the night) 2) Mailbox is moved from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 3) Client comes in and starts Outlook 4) Outlook gets redirected to new server (basically gets referred to it by old Exchange server) At this point, the profile gets updated with the new server name and life is good.
