Default Cannot find shell.dll

Good afternoon all,

We are experiencing a problem with a years-old 16-bit program. The program has been working great for years, and recently several users have been getting an error message saying that the shell.dll cannot be found when they launch the application which runs on an Access 2 database. When we try to launch Access 2, we get the same message.

Weird stuff is the fact that shell.dll CAN be found in the windows\system directory. When it is manually copied to the \system32 directory, the application works fine. All users who are experiencing the problem are using Windows XP. Even with the 'System Restore'-function disabled, the shell.dll in the system32 directory is removed every time the pc is rebooted.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem and/or found a solution ? Even hints at what could be causing this would be extremely useful.

Thx in advance !

Peter

dunno what happened to your system,

but you can add the system folder to your path, or move/copy the dll to
any folder in your path, or load the dll using the load dll api, or
move/copy the dll to the directory that is active at the time of the
implicit load,

any of which will fix the immediate problem.
