Default Hardware acceleration

As I understand it, to turn down hardware acceleration you go start, control
panel, display, advance. However in XP Home w/SP 2, start, control panel,
then to get to display, I have to click on appearance and themes. Then if I
click on display, I get the display properties. The only advance button I see
on any of the tabbed pages is under settings and I see no place to turn down
hardware acceleration. Could someone please give me further directions?

Turn left at the next paragraph marker,
travel north through each cell 'till you exit the table,
and link into microsoft.public.windowsxp.configuration!
