Unhappy zero in cell is counting as one...

Hello smart people.

I have a workbook to track injuries in the workplace. A cell is set up to calculate the number of injuries from a given year. Here's the thing;

If there is a zero in the column, it is counting that as one. Here is the formula: =COUNTA('2005 Log'!Z8:Z200)

Some of the years let me clear the contents of the cells, and that takes care of it. But some don't let me do that. The cells in question are check x or no x, no numerical value is to be entered. AND the zeros won't go away.

This is probably a basic fix, please let it be and please help me.

Thanks AGAIN.

Joanna

Default zero in cell is counting as one...

=COUNTA('2005 Log'!Z8:Z200)-COUNTIF(Z8:Z200,0)

So, all you want to count are the X's?

=COUNTIF('2005 Log'!Z8:Z200,"x")
