Default Export/Importing Birthdates, etc.

OE stores information such as birth and anniversary date. I would like to
export them for use by other programs, and just as importantly, I would like
to be able to import them from an external program to keep everything in
sync. The normal export routine does not provide a birthday or anniversary
field for exporting. Is there an external tool that allows me to do this?

I don't know how you would import to another program, but you can choose
what fields to export. This is for printing the AB with what info you choose
to be included.

Open the Address Book and go to: File | Export | Other Address Book. Click
on: Text File (comma separated value). Click: Export | Browse | Select a
folder | Name and Save. Click Next. At this point you can check what
information you want saved. Finish per instructions.

Bruce,

When you perform the steps you suggested, is "Birthday" among the fields
that are presented for selection. In my version of OE, it is not. I have
version 6. Is there a later version?

Thanks,

Roy

You're right. Birthday is not among the choices. The only thing I can think
of doing is to use one of the available fields for birthdays that you aren't
using. Not what you want, but then OE doesn't offer much more than the
basics.

Some versions of Microsoft Works (I think 6 through 8) also use the
Windows Address Book and can access the Birthdate field. It can be
imported into the Works Calendar and used in a mail merge. I'm not sure
if there's an easy way to get it into a spreadsheet or database.

If you don't already have it, older versions of Works are available
cheap.

Use the following newsgroup for questions or problems with Microsoft
Works
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.works.win

You can also access the newsgroup via the web interface he
http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/newsgroup.mspx
(although the web page mentions Works 8, the newsgroup applies to all
versions of Works for Windows)
